The annual Choreographic Competition was held on Sunday 10 May at Central School of Ballet. 

There was a wonderful atmosphere and the day ran exceptionally smoothly. This is all thanks to Claire Hern, Belinda Payne and their team of dedicated teachers and volunteers who helped on the day.

 

The competition is an opportunity for students to choreograph using free expression, to explore new ways of moving to a variety of music and gives them the opportunity to perform their creations in front of an audience.

 

Richard Bermange adjudicated the choreographic content of the children’s entries. Having trained at Central School of Ballet, Richard danced professionally in the UK and abroad. He returned to Central School of Ballet to complete a Master’s Degree in Choreography in 2016.

Richard gave encouragement and helpful advice to the participants commending them on their entries.

 

Fru Chilvers studied at Trinity College of Music and adjudicated the children’s musicality choice.

She mentioned how impressed she was with the variety of music and the interpretation of each piece shown through dance.

 

Together Richard and Fru made a great team and they will have definitely inspired the young choreographers.

 

Each child received a participation Certificate and awards were presented to the Runner Up and Winner of each section.

 

In the past I have been very involved the Choreographic Competition. Having organised, and in later years adjudicated the Competition I was delighted to be back as part of the audience.

I was impressed with the standard of work and in how the students presented themselves.

Each entry gave such pleasure to the audience and all the participants should be proud of their performance.

I do hope the children will be encouraged to enter again next year.
